Please feel free to add your own, but here’s three.
1. Buy a street directory (you’re never lost if you have one), carry a map of the rail network in your pocket (for easy access), and bring a compass (to orientate yourself every time you emerge from an unfamiliar train station or hotel).
2. Make sure your money belt is comfortable, or your trip won’t be.
3. Bring a shitload of water if you’re taking a bus, and drink and piss every chance you get, and crap regularly.
