Pettiness
September 28th 2006 06:17
Everyone has little things they don't want to admit, little moments of nasty or petty thoughts they suppress immediately.
Jealousy at an upstart claiming first place, instants of racial characterization, contempt for someone who loves you...
Presumably the thoughts will always resurface -- unless the "suppression" becomes habitual, and applied instinctively, before the thought becomes conscious. (I.e. what Orwell in 1984 calls "doublethinking".)
And if you can't condition yourself in this way, how do you deal with your pettiness?
