Markers of emotion

Heard this one from a lady at the Ensemble Theatre. I've always thought it was useful to remember.
Three indications of genuine (as opposed to indicated) emotion:
1. Kaleidoscope. The person's emotional state is constantly changing, not fixed.
2. Ambivalence. No emotion is shown with purity. In real life, if you're embarrassed, you try to hide it; if you're angry, you try to hold back.
3. Gradualness. In real life, you don't snap from one emotional state to another.
