Changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace
October 5th 2006 09:18
So it happens at 11.30am. Make sure to get there early, or all you’re going to see are fence posts. The streets are lined with people -- every freaking tourist in London -- and mounted policeman keep order.
So you get there at 11.30am. You stand around staring at fence posts for... an hour? just 45 minutes? Then the gates open, and from out the palace grounds emerge two groups of around 50 men wearing funny hats. They play American marching music and shuffle along for about 20 metres, then they stop playing and just shuffle -- you watch them slowly move off -- and in their wake they leave the shit from the police horses.
Glory of empire. God save the Queen!
